Stirring the Pot: When Millennials & Gen Z Decide to Change Their College Recipe

Byspicesformind.com October 26, 2023October 26, 2023

College is kinda like cooking up a complicated dish for the first time. For most of us Gen Z and Millennial peeps, it’s the first big recipe we’re trying out on our own. Picking a major is like choosing the main ingredient, but what happens when halfway through, you realize you’re craving something different? Switching up your college major might feel like substituting tofu for chicken, but sometimes that’s what the dish (or life) needs.

Why Tweak the Recipe Now?

1-Finding the Right Flavor

Fresh out of high school, we often go for what sounds tasty at the moment. But as we simmer in college a bit, some of us get a taste for something else, something that spices up our passion a bit more.

2- Too Salty, Too Spicy?

Maybe you dived into a major that’s tougher than overcooked steak. It happens. If it’s draining the joy out of your college experience, it might be time to consider a change.

3-Prepping for the Dinner Party (AKA Job Market)

As we get a peek into the real world, some of us want to switch to a recipe that’s in demand. It’s all about getting those chef gigs, right?

Mental Munchies: Confidence, Fam Vibes, and Peeking into the Future

1- Did I Waste Ingredients?

Switching can lead to some serious second-guessing. “Did I bail on my dish too early?” or “Is this new recipe gonna be better?” It’s natural, but sometimes you gotta trust your taste buds.

2-Family Taste Testers

Your family might not always get why you’re changing the dish. They might’ve been excited about your first choice and changing it up might make them worry you’re turning the kitchen upside down. Reassuring them and explaining why you’re tweaking the recipe can help.

3- Imagining the Final Dish

When you switch up the main ingredient, you’re basically thinking of how the final dish might look and taste. It’s a mix of excitement and “I hope this doesn’t flop.”

Squad Goals in the Kitchen

1- The Supportive Sous Chefs

Friends can be a huge help. Some have probably switched their recipes too and can offer some solid advice or just be there to taste-test and chill.

2-The “Chef’s Special” Friends

Then there are those friends who seem to be nailing their original recipe. It’s tough not to compare, but hey, everyone’s dish is different, and that’s cool.

Embracing the New Recipe

Life’s full of recipe tweaks, especially in college. If you’re thinking of or have already swapped ingredients:

1- Check Out Cooking Classes (Counseling)

Most colleges have peeps who can guide you, like a chef showing you a new technique. Use them!

2- Dish Out Your Thoughts

Talk to your friends, fam, or professors. Let them know why you’re tweaking the dish. Who knows, they might have some cool ideas.

3- Trust Your Cooking Instincts

You got this! Whether it’s spicy, sweet, or somewhere in between, your dish (and college major) is gonna be uniquely you.

To wrap it up, changing your college major is kinda like changing up a recipe. It’s a bit scary, super exciting, and totally a Gen Z and Millennial move. So, keep tasting, adjusting, and making sure your college dish is the yummiest it can be. 🍲🎓🔥
